The non-SI unit rad is sometimes also used, predominantly in the USA. Absorbed dose is the amount of radiation absorbed by an object (or person). This is the amount of exposure that actually “sticks” in the material. The units used to measure absorbed dose are the rad (r adiation a bsorbed d ose) and the gray (Gy).
