In 12-lead ECG, there are 10 electrodes providing 12 perspectives of the heart's activity using different angles through two electrical planes - vertical and horizontal planes. Vertical plane (Frontal Leads): Nurses are usually the first ones to read that “hot off the press” EKG tracing. A 12-lead EKG is considered the gold standard; however, a 4 lead EKG can also diagnose different heart conditions. This article has been reviewed by our panel of experienced registered nurses: Tyler Faust, MSN, RN Twelve-lead ECGs were obtained from the paramedic-applied electrodes, using their Mason-Likar limb lead configuration, and derived from the EASI leads for comparison with the stdECG.

Upon completion one will be able to: Describe what an ECG is. Describe the proper hook-up procedure for a 12-Lead ECG Identify basic normal ECG waveform morphology. Distinguish between basic ECG … 12-Lead ECG Placement. The patient’s chest and all four limbs should be exposed in order to apply the ECG electrodes correctly. There are different methods for identifying the correct landmarks for ECG electrode placement, the two most common being the ‘Angle of Louis’ Method and the ‘Clavicular’ Method (Crawford & Doherty 2010a).

Therefore, the first step is to select the appropriate lead for heart rate variability analysis. An ECG lead is a graphical representation of the heart’s electrical activity which is calculated by analysing data from several ECG electrodes. A 12-lead ECG records 12 leads, producing 12 separate graphs on a piece of ECG paper.

These 3 leads monitor rhythm monitoring but doesn't reveal sufficient information on ST elevation activity. 5-Lead ECG. A 5-Lead ECG uses 4 limb leads and 1 chest lead The measuring of all 12-lead electrocardiogram (ECG) is often cumbersome and impractical especially on a long term monitoring. In 1988, Gordon Dower has introduced an EASI-lead system, where only 5 electrodes are used. In order to gain all 12-lead ECG back from this EASI-lead system, Dower’s equation was proposed then. Ever since various attempts have been explored to improve the synthesis Tag Archives: EASI lead placement.
This video tutorial reveals the proper placement of EKGs
Standard ECG configuration with 3- or 5-lead capability; EASI ECG configuration used for transmitters that work with central stations that are capable of converting a 5-wire lead set signal to 12 lead analysis by having EASI version software installed at the central station. SpO2 configuration used for transmitters that are used with SpO2 sensors.

A standard 12-lead ECG report (an electrocardiograph) shows a 2.5 second tracing of each of the twelve leads.
